Conference 2023

CAUTHE 2023 – 33rd CAUTHE conference

Theme: West, East, South, North: Redirecting research in tourism, hospitality and events
Date: 7-9 February 2023

The 33rd Annual CAUTHE Conference, held at the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle, Western Australia, was hosted by a consortium of Western Australian Universities: Curtin, Edith Cowan and Murdoch. The conference was originally scheduled for February 2021 and was postponed twice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the first conference to adopt the new CAUTHE model which involved using CAUTHE’s PCO and with CAUTHE bearing financial responsibility. The conference was ultimately shortened to three days to reduce the cost for delegates and the risk for the association. A total of 188 delegates attended with 141 papers submitted and 136 presented at the conference. This was comprised of 10 full research papers and 116 working papers. Of the 136 presented papers and 10 were presented in poster format as visual presentations.

Program

The conference theme West, East, South, North: New directions for tourism, hospitality and events research encouraged delegates to think differently about tourism, hospitality and events research and education following the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference included keynote speakers, panel sessions, parallel presentations and a poster session. The conference committee were keen to involve industry and government in the conference and featured two panels, which involved representatives from Federal and State Government agencies as well as key industry figures.
