Conference 2015

CAUTHE 2015 – 25th CAUTHE conference

Theme: Rising Tides and Sea Changes: Adaptation and Innovation in Tourism and Hospitality
Date: 2-5 February 2015

CAUTHE 2015, hosted by Southern Cross University, was held at the Southern Gold Coast campus. It was attended by around 176 delegates. Around 30 full and 104 working papers, and 10 posters were accepted and presented. Approximately 117 reviewers provided comments on the papers.

Three keynote speakers gave stimulating and interesting talks on different aspects of tourism and hospitality:

  • Professor Betty Weiler (Southern Cross University), Australian Tourism Researchers’ Activity and Output: So Far, So Much, So What?
  • Professor John Tribe (University of Surrey), The Tourism Knowledge System
  • Martin Winter (Chief Executive Officer, Gold Coast Tourism), The Changing Face of Tourism: A View from the Beach

A highlight of the conference, the Great Debate moderated by Prof. Larry Dwyer, was entertaining as ever.  The topic for the debate was Australian Tourism: Adaptive and Innovative. The social activities included a welcome to campus BBQ, opening drinks and nibbles at the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, and the gala dinner at the Currumbin RSL. The gala dinner and dance, themed in the style of ‘beach glam’, was a great success.

The sponsors of the conference were Gold Coast Tourism, Setting the Standard (OLT project); Online Business Simulations (OLT project), CABi, ChannelView, Elsevier, Goodfellow Publishers, Routledge, and the School of Business and Tourism, Southern Cross University
