Conference 2012

CAUTHE 2012 – 22nd CAUTHE Conference

Theme: The New Golden Age of Tourism and Hospitality
Date: 6 – 9 February 2012

The School of Management at La Trobe University hosted the CAUTHE 2012 conference at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. In  a period of increasing costs associated with hosting a major conference in Melbourne, as well as the expectations of delegates for a high level of facilities, along with competition from many international conferences, maintaining the profile of CAUTHE is important. However, these issues, combined with decreasing budgets and the strong Australian dollar resulted in fewer delegates attending than planned.

However, the conference was considered a success and the delegate feedback was particularly positive. The Great Debate, Ideas Factory, overall quality of presentations and the profile of the sponsors were all very well received.

The opening plenary sessions on both the first and second days of the conference were  presented as a discussion with the speakers rather than a more formal type of keynote address. This initiative worked very well, setting the scene for many of the discussions in the days to come. Also, by engaging more with CAUTHE’s Special Interest Groups, we were able to focus the streaming of papers, providing a more coherent and integrated program.
