New Emerging Markets SIG

CAUTHE welcomes a new Special Interest Group, the Emerging Markets (EMSIG).

Tourism export forecasts predict that emerging tourism markets such as China and India will grow to dominate Australia’s international tourism business by 2020. The Australian tourism industry is looking to the academic community to assist through the preparation of suitably qualified graduates and insightful research.

The SIG aims to provide a vehicle for informing and supporting research and teaching related activities around Emerging Markets through publishing, workshops and events. The SIG aims to stimulate funding and support for relevant academic research and promote collaboration with key industry and government stakeholders.

An annual research workshop focused on emerging tourism markets was held in conjunction with the Australian Tourism Export Council (ATEC). The inaugural workshop, focused on Chinese Outbound Tourism, was held on 1 May 2012 at the Hyatt Regency at Coolum in the lead up to the 2012 ATEC Symposium. The workshop was open to both academic and industry participants, and focussed on developing a research agenda.
